Hi my name is Ted Gilbert. I believe that the stock market of publicly traded common stocks is the ideal example and embodiment of a free market and democratic economic system. It is your right to participate in it! Like you, I would like to make money in the market, and have tried to make money in the market on a consistent basis for myself, and for clients, as a professional, since 1996. I have no unique ability or skill, but I have had the good fortune to have had the opportunity to put real money behind investment ideas, to trade stocks in real time with my own money, and the money of my clients, for a very long time. This practice has, I believe, resulted in my developing some awareness and ‘feel’ for a stock. Picking stocks that go up more often than go down is a really tough game. But I believe that in all areas of human endeavor, we can learn to be better with practice. The Stocktails stocks I put into the monthly Stocktails newsletter are derived from my research process, which, much like a baker baking cookies every day, is a combination of a basic recipe, deployed with years of experience ‘in the kitchen’. Like the baker, who wants every cookie to be perfect but often falls short, I too want each and every stock pick to work out in a positive way. To further this metaphor, we all like good tasting cookies, but we eat them differently. Similar with stock buying and trading; we all have our own ways of going about the investment of our trading capital, how much we buy of a specific stock, when we buy it, how we trade it, when we add more or sell, what other stocks in our portfolios exist, etc. So, remember that I’m only setting out my ideas, how it works out for you is not entirely in my control. This is why investing is so personal, and often goes sideways; few other people can know you as well as yourself when it comes to investing. So, please, take ownership of what you are doing and feel empowered to do so. No one out there can tell you what is best for you, any better than yourself. I suggest that you consider my stocks along with all the other research you’re doing. Hopefully things will work out for you in the end. Generally, the Stocktails stock picks are what I consider ‘growth at a reasonable price’ opportunities for the medium term holding; that is, six months to over a year. WHAT IS STOCKTAILS

HOW DOES STOCKTAILS WORK?

A typical STOCKTAILS meeting is about two hours long, in the evening, usually during the week. They are located at conveniently-located craft cocktail bars that provide nice relaxed and somewhat quiet environments. The meetings begin with a member sign-in and introductions, and then the ‘host/moderator’ suggests a few topics from investing or personal finance curriculum, as well as current events from the financial news periodicals. The members order drinks and food and the conversation begins. Everyone has an opportunity to ask questions or share their opinions, and this carries on until the end of the meeting. Every STOCKTAILS meeting is different precisely because the attendees are different and bring different questions, concerns, interests, opinions and knowledge.
